We approved another set of grants for the 2017-18 School Year. One of them being Sphero units for Prairie Wind Middle School. Spheros are an educational tool that encourages problem-solving through programming on student iPads.
In the words of the Sphero Edu website, “It’s kind of a big deal, but there’s more than just logic. Sphero Edu incorporates STEAM activities and the 4C’s [Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Creativity] – all with Sphero robots.” Sphero Edu was built for learner progression.
In Computer Applications class, seventh grade students learn the basics of programming the robot in a week-long unit. Additional skills and challenges are added to the eighth-grade curriculum. Teachers want to continue to advance student skills in programming and problem solving, which they are able to do with the Sphero units.
