The 19th grant of the year has been approved!
The PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program at Heart of the Lakes Elementary school teaches kids specific expectations that are predictable, consistent, positive, and safe. The fundamental purpose of school-wide PBIS is to make schools more effective and equitable learning environments. Data tells us the less time spent on behaviors, the more time spent on learning.
After two years of implementation, HOTL instructors have found that our program could use support in the Tier 1 phase. Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning has been a game changer for teachers. To enhance the PBIS program, and support teachers and students, The will purchase SEL learning kits for each grade level. Second Step is a scope and sequenced program that will support teachers with lessons on skills for learning, empathy, emotional management, and problem solving.
Ultimately, instructors expect behavior to change. They want to build a positive climate in the school, community, and world. Monthly, they use data to drive decision making with behaviors and how they can positively support students and kids. Data right now shows that they need support and interventions in place to help those students who aren’t there yet. It is proven that there is a correlation between social competence and academic achievement. We want our students to be the best they can be and achieve their maximum. Reduction in problem behaviors increases academic performance.
