Another grant has been approved for the school year! This one is for Mr. Stafki’s high school science class to explore different ecosystems.
There are three major eco-regions in Minnesota, and the funds provided by 549 Family Foundation will pay for the transportation required to visit each eco-region. The trips will include:
- Hamden Slough for prairie
- Maplewood State Park for Maple/Basswood deciduous forest
- Itasca State Park for the Coniferous Mixed Forest
Mr. Stafki hopes that the trips will help students see beyond the surface and truly understand what makes each of these regions unique. Too often, people enjoy what they see in nature, but have no idea how that eco-region came into being, how it has been altered, or how fragile it is. These trips should give the students a new understanding of just how amazing this state truly is. It will also help them make better choices when their generation is in charge of our natural places.
