We approved another grant! Grant #11 for the 2019-20 school year is dedicated to HOBY, otherwise known as the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. Each year, every school across Minnesota selects one 10th grade student to attend the 3 day seminar. We are proud to provide the funds needed for the Perham High School sophomore to participate.
HOBY was founded in 1958 with the mission to inspire and develop our global community youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States.
This year’s HOBY will be held at St. Cloud State University June 12 – 14. It is a three day leadership conference for high school sophomores that is packed with fun and innovative leadership activities. The purpose of the seminar is to prepare our country’s high school sophomores to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, schools, workplace, and community.
Sophomores at PHS go through an application process to be considered. They apply each year by writing a paragraph or two describing why they should be selected along with a list of school and community activities they are involved in. They are judged on leadership ability, sensitivity to others, and a desire to communicate their knowledge to their peers.
