Another grant has been approved for the 2017-18 School Year! We awarded funds to preschool teachers to stock up their classrooms with books. The books that are purchased for each classroom will be easily accessible to the children throughout the school year. The teachers plan to purchase a variety of books that include skills such as rhyming, alliteration, letter naming, counting, and beginner reading/sight readers. They also plan to purchase theme-based books that are appropriate for children ages 3-5 years old.
There are many positive outcomes from building each classrooms’ library space. Students will be exposed to a variety of different kinds of books, which will help them find some they find interesting and build their reading stamina at a young age. Teachers will be able to easily access books that interest the children or go along with a skill/theme/concept that students are learning in the classroom. The books will help students work on skills such as rhyming, alliteration, letter naming and sounds, and counting.
Students will also learn book concepts, including opening a book, reading left to right, about authors and illustrators, turning pages, and fronts/backs of books. Teachers will also teach students how to treat books.
This is a great project and one we support wholeheartedly. Some students have very little access to books before attending Kids Adventure. This project will put books in children’s hands throughout the entire school year.
