Our first grant for the 2019-20 School Year has been approved! BrainPOP has been one of our projects for the last couple of years, and we are excited to continue providing students at HOTL and PWMS with access to it.
BrainPOP is an educational website/app that has three divisions: BrainPOP Jr. for grades K-3, BrainPOP for grades 4-8 and also BrainPOP ESL for our non-English speaking students. In the words of an EdSurge review, BrainPOP offers hundreds of animated educational videos across a wide variety of topics, all of which are accompanied by interactive quizzes, activities, and games. The content covers material in ELA, math, science, social studies, health, art, and technology. It also offers great videos on the appropriate use of technology and digital citizenship. With the subscription fee, that we are requesting, parents and students can also access the site from home. Please note that this is a two-year subscription fee.
BrainPop offers another way for teachers to introduce and/or access information. Students benefit from BrainPOP because the information is presented in another manner in addition to the teacher presentations. Several teachers have used the videos as a way to “hook” students on a topic and then build on the information presented in the video. The ESL component also allows for students with a language barrier to be a part of the lesson. Simply put, BrainPOP adds to the understanding of students.
